His TV & Film credits include ‘The Boys‘ on Amazon Prime, Netflix’s ‘I Woke Up a Vampire‘, Shaftesbury’s ‘Ruby & the Well’ and several Hallmark and Lifetime movies like ‘Falling Like Snowflakes’, ‘Christmas with a Kiss‘, ‘Miracle in Motor City’ and OWN’s ‘A Christmas Serenade’. With a career that’s only beginning to blossom, Jayd sat down with Splash Magazine to discuss his journey so far, his love for music, and what’s next for this rising talent.

Q: How did you get started in the voice acting and film industry?

Jayd Deroché: I first started in the industry when I was 4 years old. My mom found an agent for me, but she waited until I was a bit older to make sure it was something I really wanted to do. When I was 7, I started dancing and singing to Michael Jackson, and my mom’s friend saw me on Instagram and asked if I wanted to perform “Thriller” at an adult Halloween event. I said yes, and from there it all just took off!

A few months later, we went to The Bahamas, where my parents surprised me with tickets to The Jacksons’ concert. Jermaine Jackson brought me on stage, and I danced with them – one of the most incredible moments of my life. That really cemented my love for performing. Soon after, I signed with my first agency and started training and auditioning, and here we are!

Q: What has been your most rewarding role so far?

Jayd Deroché: Definitely my role in I Woke Up a Vampire on Netflix. It was such a fun project to work on, and I put a lot of effort into it. Being able to collaborate with other talented kids and work with special effects was an incredible experience. Plus, it’s exciting to be a series regular on such a cool show!

Q: How do you balance acting, voice work, music, and school life?

Jayd Deroché: It’s a challenge, especially with how busy the past few years have been. When I was in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, I had rehearsals all day and would have to record for the animated series’ early in the morning before rehearsals. I was juggling different voice roles, singing live, and staying on top of schoolwork. It was a lot!

Last year, I switched to an online private school, which helped balance my schedule, but now I’m excited to be back in person this year with a school that can accommodate my schedule. It’s all about managing time and making sure I stay focused on what needs to get done.

Q: Who do you look up to as an actor and musician?

Jayd Deroché: Jamie Foxx! He’s such an incredible actor and musician, and his sense of humor is amazing. He’s a great example of someone who’s successfully crossed over into different parts of the entertainment industry.

Q: Can you tell us more about the instruments you play and your music?

Jayd Deroché: I play piano, guitar, bass, drums, and violin. I haven’t released my music yet, but I’m working on it! I have a few songs in the works – three pop tracks and a ballad – that will be coming out soon. I’m excited to finally share what I’ve been working on.

Q: What do you hope people take away from your music?

Jayd Deroché: I hope my music makes people feel something, whether it’s joy, relaxation, or even connection on a deeper level. One of my songs touches on mental health and perseverance, and I think a lot of people will relate to it. I just want to bring people comfort and happiness through my music.

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?

Jayd Deroché: I would love to collaborate with Frank Ocean or Tyler The Creator. Frank Ocean’s voice is incredible, and I really admire Tyler’s production style. Working with either of them would be a dream come true.

Q: What challenges have you faced in your career so far?

Jayd Deroché: One of the biggest challenges is time. Between traveling for work, last- minute auditions, and school, it can be hard to fit everything in. It’s especially tricky when I have to learn a new accent or develop a complex character quickly. I’ve also had to deal with the occasional rejection, which is tough—especially when I’ve put a lot of work into a role. In animated series, my voice changing as I get older can also lead to challenges like being recast. But I’ve learned to keep pushing forward. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and I love what I do so much that it’s all worth it.

Q: What motto do you live by?

Jayd Deroché: “Work hard – do your best and what’s meant for you will happen.” It’s a reminder that if I put in the effort, good things will come in time.

Q: What would your dream headline be in the news?

Jayd Deroché: “JAYD WINS A GRAMMY”! That’s definitely the dream headline.

With numerous TV, Film and voice acting credits, and a promising music career on the horizon, Jayd Deroché is a multi-talented force to watch out for in the entertainment world. At just 13, he’s accomplished more than many twice his age, and the best is yet to come!
