One of the highlights of BALEENkitchen is the charcuterie & cheese board. Along with the rest of the menu this is always changing, but what you can always find is incredibly unique cheese along with jams that are made fresh daily in the kitchen. There is no better way to start off your evening that with all the flavors that are offered here. Fresh diver scallops, snapper or the true seafood delicacy cioppino. This dish is created with shrimp, calamari, clams, mussels, the fresh catch of the day, spanish chorizo and it all comes to get together in an amazingly rich saffron-tomato broth that could easily stand on its own. If there is one dish to try at BALEENkitchen, the cioppino is it.
To go with dinner or just a night out, BALEENkitchen has some wonderful options including hand crafted cocktails that feature a rotating barrel-aged cocktail on occasion you can find simply one of the best old-fashioned on the west coast. In addition they have a wonderful wine collection and local beers on tap from breweries such as Smog City, El Segundo Brewery and King Harbor and Absolution Brewing Company.
You really don’t need your car once you get here. The Portofino has complimentary beach cruisers that allow you to enjoy yourself up and down the coast. The pier is only about a 15 minute walk and from their you can keep yourself busy all day long. You can enjoy the sea lions, the ocean, take a drive to Disneyland or Hollywood, you really can do anything because the Portofino puts you in the middle of it all.
