HOLLYWOOD HOTEL Review – Centrally Located with a Boutique Hollywood Vibe

The Hollywood Hotel looked perfect. Located at 1160 N Vermont, near Santa Monica Blvd and the Hollywood Freeway, made it easy to get to all of my destinations. Likewise the Hollywood Hotel offers easy access to the Museums on Wilshire Blvd, Staples Center and Disney Concert Hall in Downtown LA for sports events and concerts, as well as making it a quick jaunt to Universal City, or maybe down to the Santa Monica Pier.

The Hollywood Hotel was established in 1903 and delightfully fuses old Hollywood Glamour with a modern take on deluxe amenities and newly refreshed comfortable rooms, of which there are 130. For the trivia buffs, I’m told that the 1937 movie “Hooray for Hollywood” was filmed on location at the property and first featured the song Hooray for Hollywood. Rudolph Valentino lived in the hotel and met his first wife there.

The hotel is currently being renovated and I was lucky to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms. When I arrived I was greeted warmly, the lobby was brightly lit and decorated for the holidays. While the hallway itself was still under construction, there was easy access and even the workers were friendly and said hello. I appreciated the greeting.

My room was super nice, with a great bed and fluffy pillows. I slept like a log the two nights I was there. There were French Doors opening onto a viewing balcony which overlooked the newly renovated courtyard, which was lush with evergreens and palm trees. Very California for sure! The bathroom was fancy and had a great big shower. With one of those fancy shower heads in the ceiling, it looked pretty, but I found it a bit awkward without a wall mounted shower head or hand spray.

Hotel Director Jeff Zarrinnam is also renovating the 1927 Chateau Celeste, which will be a 31 suite upscale boutique hotel, directly across the street from the Hollywood Hotel. I’ll keep an eye out on this one as I do love a high quality restoration.

With more beautiful landscaping the Hollywood Hotel boasts a beautiful pool, only a short walk adjacent to the main building and I can definitely see some quality days snoozing or reading by the pool. However, when word gets out, I can also see this as a place to “carry-on and Par-Tay !!!”

On the lower level is the Route 66 Lounge. Paying tribute to the City’s artistic and creative spirit the bar and lounge offer a relaxing ambiance for guest and friends to hang out. Don’t forget the free hot breakfast offered for guest, and check out the schedule for entertainment, including some great comedy acts.

The Old Hollywood, and boutique feel of the property, along with its proximity to so many sites in Southern California, makes this a great option at a reasonable price. Do check the website for lots more information, pricing, and specials. Also note there is additional cost for parking.
